Firemint partners with Namco for Flight Control Mobile

18 February 2010 25 comments

We’re very happy to announce that we are partnering with our good friends at Namco to bring Flight Control to mobile phones across Java, Windows Mobile, Brew and Android, scheduled for release in July 2010. Here is Namco’s press release:

Namco Networks, a leading publisher and developer of mobile, iPhone and PC games for mass-market casual gamers, today announced a partnership with Firemint, a leading iPhone games studio, to bring Flight Control to mobile. Currently only available on iPhone/iPod touch devices, and launching February 19 on Nintendo DSiWare, the infamous hit is slated to make a smooth landing on Java, Windows Mobile, Brew and Android platforms in July 2010.

In Flight Control, players must guide planes, jets and helicopters safely to their landing zones. While it starts off relatively simple, as time passes more aircraft start to fill the friendly skies. It is up to the controller to alter the aircraft’s flight path as needed to avoid mid-air collisions. The addictive game continues as long as the player brings every flight home safe and sound.

“We are honored to work with a company that is considered to be an innovator in our space,” stated Scott Rubin, vice president of sales and marketing at Namco Networks. “Collaborating with Firemint to provide casual game lovers with a mobile version of the top selling brand is a proud moment. The Flight Control experience transfers perfectly to the targeted mobile platforms because of the intuitive controls and pure simplicity.”

Firemint’s CEO, Robert Murray, commented, “Having sold over two million copies on the iPhone in under a year, Flight Control has achieved amazing success. Our partnership with Namco began over three years ago with our development of Rolling with Katamari and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them again. It will be a great feat to see our game reach an even broader demographic with the mobile edition.”

Flight Control is scheduled to release in July. To learn more about Namco and its games, please visit www.namcogames.com or NAMCO GAMES on Facebook. For more information about Firemint, please visit www.firemint.com.

i would like to ask what about other touchscreen handphones such as symbian and winmo?

  • I'll buy 2 for WM

Still on track for a July release for Windows Mobile?

  • http://www.firemint.com firemint

    Yes, all looking good :)

  • Android N1

Should we expect in Early, Mid or End of July?

  • http://www.firemint.com firemint

As soon as we know, we'll post here! It may not be the same date on all networks/devices because of the different roll-out requirements around the world… but we're keen to see it out there too :)

Every day for the last couple of months, I've been checking this site, frantically waiting for an update….. Can you tell me what versions of Windows Mobile will be supported? Surely the Staff at Firemint know this. I would gladly like to know, and appreciate your response. Thanks and Keep up the great work!

I agree and second this. Can someone from Firemint, please at least reply with which versions of Windows Mobile this is going to be available for. It's been said that it'll be available for Windows Mobile, and we're already in July. I'm sure someone from Firemint knows what versions of windows mobile Flight Control will be available for… Come on Firemint, I applaud Rocky Nick for asking this important question, as some people such as I are planning on purchasing a new phone, but are waiting to see what versions and platforms it'll be available for.. If you look at Rocky Nick's post, you'll see that 5 people liked it.. that's more than all of the other posts. We can't stand waiting for a minor detail that Firemint already knows.

  • Michael Scott

I also agree. I've been waiting for months to purchase a smartphone, and I'm basing my next purchase on what Flight Control will be available on. Firemint, please release this minor detail, which you already know. It's not going to hurt anybody, it's only going to make people happier, and spark even more interest.

Hi guys, thank you so much for your interest! Sadly it's not as simple as it may seem as we are not doing the development or deployment ourselves. We have asked Namco to confirm the specific OS versions and we will update our site once we know for sure! I'd also like to say, it's completely awesome that you guys are (at least partly) basing your decision on which phone to buy on Flight Control availability :) What handsets are you considering? – Alex

Hey Firemint, Thanks for your quick response.. I'm considering the T-Mobile Dash 3G — WM 6.5, non Touchscreen, and the HTC HD2 (6.5, touchscreen), and the HTC Touch Pro2 (6.5, touchscreen). Thanks Again… I now understand that Firemint is not developing/deploying it…

  • Jay V. Taylor

I also appreciate the timely response… I'm sorry I did not reply back sooner… I just received an email notification, about a response. I also hope that my previous post did not come across the wrong way, as I now understand why Firemint doesn't know, and I'm sure that none of us meant to come across the wrong way or offend anyone, we're just anxiously waiting, :) I'm considering the Dash 3G, but as Rocky just posted, I might also be interested in the Touch Pro2… Also, do you know they are developing non-touchscreen versions? I've heard rumors of that, and it sounds very interesting.. Thanks guys, keep it up!

Hey Rocky, I believe it's not out on T-Mobile just yet (but should be very soon) – hopefully you will be able to check their site at that point to see what handsets are supported! Thanks again for your interest :)

  • WeirdChoiceOfWords

“infamous hit…”?  in my dictionary infamous is defined as “[being] well known for some bad quality or deed.”

weird choice of words for a press release.

  • http://www.firemint.com firemint

As stated in the article this is Namco's press release, not ours.
Considering this is from well over a year ago, I don't think they'll be updating it. Well spotted, though ;)
