Video and tips from new Flight Control World Champion!
While we were still amazed at Dan Pho’s incredible Flight Control score of 30,039, a new World Record holder has appeared! Denis S. a.k.a. Wolverine has taken the top spot with an insane 51,855 landings in one game – and even better, if you want to know how he did it, he videoed his technique from 50630 to 50686. Read on below the video for more, including some tips from Denis.
Denis lives near Stuttgart in Germany, and his two brothers, sister and dad also all play Flight Control. His younger brother got an iPhone about one year before him and was always showing it off when he came to visit. In April, just as Denis had got his own iPhone, his brother showed him Flight Control. Denis says “I played it once on his device and instantly had the urge to download it ;)”
After the high scores website was launched, the challenge was out there – Denis got addicted and decided he had to be an Astronaut! The “Astronaut” title is only given to the top ten players in the world (out of over 1,500,000 who have bought Flight Control). Denis’ scores started to improve but so were everyone else’s, and so the score required to reach Astronaut level kept going up. After a few months a score of 13,998 got him into third place, however other people started posting higher scores as well. Denis dropped down to eighth place and he realized that he had to post a higher score to hold on to his Astronaut rank.
After playing about an hour and a half per day for three weeks, Denis passed 30,000. After finally beating Dan’s previous world record score, Denis wasn’t too worried about crashing through a lapse of concentration anymore and started playing a bit longer each day, using the “fast forward” function about 30% of the time. He added another 20,000 landings in just one week, but two yellow planes colliding in front of the landing strip finally ended the game. Denis says “My brother sometimes meets people who boast about having landed a few hounded planes. He tells them that his brother has landed over 50,000 and is the world champion which leaves them pretty speechless ;)” – we’re pretty speechless too, congratulations Denis on your awesome score!
Wolverine’s Flight Control Tips
- As soon as a plane appears draw a short path to its landing strip so that you don’t have any planes flying around aimlessly
- Constantly readjust flight paths to:
- avoid collision by not letting planes to get too close
- avoid planes piling up by not letting the gap between planes get too large
- Find a quiet place to play and take breaks so that you don’t lose concentration
